Since the time of ancient Rome, as in 19th Century England, the color green indicated homosexuality. Victorian gay men would wear green carnations on their lapel as an early symbol, which was popularized by the author Oscar Wilde. The Green Carnation Society is an informal gathering of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered, and Friends at the Steampunk World's Fair.
